The Los Angeles Chargers, who placed second in the AFC West last season, have not won the divisional title since they were playing in San Diego. Their last AFC West title came in 2009. After Jim Harbaugh’s arrival last year, among much fanfare, he went on to lead the Chargers to 11 wins in his first season in LA. However, he failed to get the Bolts their first playoff victory in the Justin Herbert era. The younger Harbaugh’s second year will be judged on how the team performs in the postseason.
While Jim Harbaugh deserves blame for the 2024-25 season’s playoff loss, ultimately, it was Justin Herbert’s shocking meltdown (threw 4 interceptions) that made the AFC wildcard encounter completely lopsided in favor of the Houston Texans. Entering the 2025 season in hopes of getting deep into the postseason, LA would certainly be hoping that last year’s performance in the wildcard round from their star QB was a fluke.
What is the Los Angeles Chargers' depth chart for 2025-26?
It is no secret how much Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh loves the running game. It was once again evident in the Chargers' offseason when the team added both Najee Harris (free agency) and Omarion Hampton (first round, 2025 draft). Bolts GM Joe Hortiz also got Mekhi Becton in free agency to bolster the offensive line. The Chargers also upgraded at the skill position by bringing back Mike Williams and selecting Tre Harris out of Ole Miss in the second round of the 2025 draft.
On the defensive front, LA did lose key pieces in defensive tackles Poona Ford and Morgan Fox. To replace them, the Chargers went after Da’Shawn Hand and Naquan Jones in FA while investing a 3rd round pick in the 2025 draft (Jamaree Caldwell). The biggest name to leave the franchise in the offseason was 5-year Pro Bowler Joey Bosa, who signed a 1-year deal with the Buffalo Bills. The Chargers are hoping for last year’s breakout star, Tuli Tuipolotu (who also led the team in sacks), to become a perennial double-digit sack guy and the future of the franchise on the edge.
