The highest-ranked Indian in men's singles, Sumit Nagal, achieved his career-high singles ranking of No. 68 on July 15, 2024. Nagal earned his first big victory of the season by reaching the second round of the 2024 Australian Open, defeating No. 31 seed Alexander Bublik in straight sets.

It was Nagal's best performance in a grand slam till now and his first victory over a top-40-ranked player. With his win at the Tampere Challenger in 2023, Nagal became the first Indian player to win two titles in European Clay in a year. His success continued as he reached four Challenger finals in a year. He won the 2024 Chennai Open Challenger.

Nagal made his debut at the 2024 BNP Paribas Open as the lucky loser replacing Rafael Nadal, thus becoming the first Indian at a Masters 1000 since Prajnesh Gunneswaran. He qualified for his next Masters tournament at the 2024 Monte Carlo, becoming the first Indian player in 42 years to qualify for the main draw. He registered his first Masters win, defeating Matteo Arnaldi in his opening match.

At the 2019 US Open, Nagal stunned tennis fans globally when he won the first set against former world No. 1 Roger Federer. He has been playing as a member of India's Davis Cup team since 2018.
