Oh, cricket! The Netherlands look such a good team this year but might just not make it to the main event and Sri Lanka are just finding ways to remain unbeaten. That's it for this match from our side, folks! We'll see you next time. This is Rudransh and Karthik signing off. Good night!
Scott Edwards [Netherlands captain]: Yes, it is obviously disappointing. At the halfway mark, we thought they were under-par. We had a good start but they bowled well. Dhanjaya batted really well and on this wicket, you need partnerships like that. A run-out like that or a great piece of fielding changes the game but we should have batted better. [On the sweep shot] I just look at the field. Against quality bowlers, you just need to find a way to put pressure on the bowlers. We were believing because we had 11 guys who can bat. I back those guys as much as anyone. We'll go and look back and see what we can do, in these tournaments anything can happen and we'll try our best.
Dasun Shanaka [Sri Lanka captain]: It was a tough game, the score wasn't enough but we managed to cross the line. [On toss] We played some rash shots, sometimes you get down a bit in such tournaments but we just need to play the wicket. It was a masterclass innings from Dhanajaya de Silbva, he deserved the 100. Not many can do that from 96/6. It's totally on him and Theekshana. After scoring 240, if our batters couldn't get that total, we knew we needed our bowlers to defend. Hasaranga and Theekshana always play that role well. I wanted to keep Theekshana for the other batters, that's why didn't bowl him completely. [On Kumara] We are still assessing him and would be more clear soon. Zimbabwe is a big match for us and we have to make sure we do the correct things on the field.
Dhananjaya de Silva (Player of the Match: Tough match, they fought very well. Luckily, I batted well. My idea was to bat through the 50 overs. I was just playing straight. (About Theekshana's contribution with the bat) He batted very well and I was just asking him to not get out. Wanindu also batted well. I like to spend time in the middle. This was the opportunity to do it and guess I did a fair job. We have been doing well in all the three departments. Top-order is getting runs and the lower-order is also supporting well
SRI LANKA KEPT ON IT AND HAVE SNATCHED THE WIN HERE! They win by 21 runs! The relief is palpable and the Netherlands are disappointed. A famous win was always in their hands but the things that kept in the game, also lost them the match!
Dhananjaya de Silva 93 (111) | Maheesh Theekshana (3/31) Scott Edwards 67 (68) | Logan van Beek (3/26)
An ODI game rarely swings as many times as this one did. The Netherlands were at the top for most part of the first innings but Sri Lanka took it back from them with that knock from de Silva. The Lankans continued that momentum in the second innings by getting both the openers out for a duck. Kumara's extra pace and Madushanka's swing did them. But the former had to walk out of the field due to an injury and Sri Lanka were suddenly a bowler short.
Barresi and de Leede used that opportunity to build a brisk partnership. They looked supremely assured at the crease. Barresi especially took on the spinners beautifully, perhaps the only one reading them from hand and using the sweep shot to perfection. He was batting so well that Hasaranga was removed from his first spell after just 2 overs. It was their running of between which kept them going (combined with multiple mis-fields from Sri Lanka) but one ball changed everything as Shanaka's quick throw got Barresi run-out.
Hasaranga was brought back immediately from the other end got Teja out but skipper Edwards came out with a billion sweeps in his pocket and built another partnership with de Leede. Sri Lanka were desperate for magic and Theekshana provided just that, bowling three corkers to get de Leede, Zulfiqar and van Beek within two overs.
Edwards got good support from the lower-order batter, so much so that he didn't farm the strike much and kept his sweeps going. But Sri Lanka kept the pressure on. Mendis sent a stunning throw to earn his team a second run-out before Hasaranga got Klein, who was batting really well for a number 10. Hasaranga didn't have a great match with the ball but brought out a beautiful googly to get his man at the right moment.
It was still a bit jittery for the Lankans till the last partnership but Shanaka took it on himself to get Aryan out, leaving Edwards stranded.
Sri Lanka have their one foot in India! The Netherlands matched them in almost everything and were just a tad unlucky to not get over the line.

Nice quick over from de Silva. Edwards happy to trust his partner against the off-spinner and he proves him right. All Dutch tailenders have shown great commitment here.
