5 must-see matches from Brock Lesnar's first WWE run

Brock Lesnar is one of the most accomplished superstars in WWE history.

The Beast is a multi-time WWE Champion and Universal Champion, in addition to being a King of The Ring and Royal Rumble winner.

Lesnar made his WWE debut on the post-WrestleMania X8 edition of Monday Night RAW in 2002 by attacking Spike Dudley and Al Snow.

The Conqueror made history in his first run with WWE, becoming the second fastest Superstar in company history to win the WWE Championship after his debut.

However, Lesnar did not stay with the company for very long. The former NCAA Heavyweight Champion departed the company in March 2004 to pursue a career in the NFL, as well as outside interests.

Despite only appearing on WWE television for two years, Brock Lesnar competed in some incredibly high-profile and memorable matches.

Let's take a closer look at five must-see matches from Brock Lesnar's first WWE run.

#5 Brock Lesnar vs Kurt Angle - Iron Man match (WWE SmackDown 2003)

Arguably Brock Lesnar's greatest rival from his first run with WWE is Hall of Famer Kurt Angle.

Lesnar and Angle produced several stand-out matches throughout their critically-acclaimed rivalry on SmackDown.

One such classic was a WWE Championship 60-Minute Iron Man match on the September 18, 2003 edition of SmackDown.

The match saw Brock Lesnar utilize a steel chair on Angle, resulting in a disqualification fall for the WWE Champion. However, with the champion injured, Lesnar quickly scored several pin-falls to race ahead.

With time quickly running out on the Olympic Gold Medallist, Kurt Angle was able to score several pin-falls and submissions to bring the score on the board of five falls to four in favor of Lesnar.

However, as Angle had the ankle lock cinched in, the clock struck zero with Brock Lesnar winning the match and capturing his third WWE Championship.

#4 Brock Lesnar vs The Undertaker (WWE No Mercy 2002)

WWE icon The Undertaker had several high-profile matches against Brock Lesnar during The Beast's initial run with the company.

Arguably the best-remembered match between the two superstars came at No Mercy in 2002.

After their match the prior month ended as a No Contest, a match between The Deadman and Lesnar was made for the WWE Championship inside Hell in a Cell.

The match was one of the most violent and bloody Hell in a Cell matches in WWE history, with The Undertaker bleeding profusely throughout the encounter.

Ultimately, Brock Lesnar was able to retain the WWE Championship after hitting his opponent with his trademark F5 finishing maneuver.

#3 Brock Lesnar vs Kurt Angle (WWE WrestleMania XIX)

Just 12 months after making his WWE main roster debut, Brock Lesnar competed in the main event of WrestleMania XIX when he faced off against Kurt Angle for the WWE Championship.

After dropping the title at Survivor Series, Brock Lesnar won the 2003 Royal Rumble match to punch his ticket to the main event of WrestleMania.

The match is perhaps best remembered for the closing moments that saw Brock Lesnar's professional wrestling career nearly come to a premature end.

The Beast scaled the turnbuckles to the top rope and attempted to hit a Shooting Star Press onto Angle who was half-way across the ring.

After a split-second hesistation, Lesnar attempted the move but landed directly onto his head. The nasty landing led many to speculate that the challenger had broken his neck, or at the very least had knocked himself out.

The Conqueror had the wherewithal to get to his feet and hit Kurt Angle with an F5 to win the match and capture the WWE Championship for the second time.

#2 Brock Lesnar vs The Rock (WWE SummerSlam 2002)

Brock Lesnar's rookie WWE year is one of the most impressive first twelve months in WWE history.

The Beast won the 2002 King of The Ring tournament, earning him an opportunity for the WWE Undisputed Championship in the main event of SummerSlam that year against The Rock.

An incredible match saw Lesnar largely dominate The Great One, hitting The Rock with an F5 to capture the first WWE Championship of his career at the biggest event of the summer.

The title victory for Lesnar was historic for a variety of reasons. In winning the match, Brock Lesnar became the youngest WWE Champion in history at the age of 25. However, this record was broken two years later by Randy Orton at the very same event.

Brock Lesnar also became the second fastest superstar in WWE history to capture the WWE title after his debut at just 126 days.

#1 Brock Lesnar vs Eddie Guerrero (WWE No Way Out 2004)

Brock Lesnar participated in one of the greatest WWE Championship changes in company history when he was defeated by Eddie Guerrero at No Way Out in 2004.

The storyline heading into the match centered around Guerrero's past issues with substance abuse, addiction and his recovery into becoming one of the most beloved and popular superstars in WWE history.

Meanwhile, Lesnar had also begun a feud with RAW Superstar Goldberg that would culminate at WrestleMania XX.

The closing moments of the match saw the referee get knocked down. This allowed Goldberg to appear and spear his WrestleMania opponent. Eddie Guerrero capitalized by countering an F5 from Lesnar into a tornado DDT onto the WWE Championship belt.

Guerrero followed this with a frog splash to capture the first and only WWE Championship of his career in one of the greatest moments in WWE history.
