Chennedy Carter seemingly took shots at the Angel Reese-led Chicago Sky after Courtney Vandersloot's season-ending injury was announced. Carter was one of the key players on the Sky last year, averaging a career-high 17.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and 3.1 assists on 48.7% shooting.

However, Chicago chose not to bring her back for the 2025 season. Carter also didn't earn a call-up with any other team. With her replacement, Vandersloot, going down with an ACL tear, Carter presumably called out the Sky organization on Threads on Sunday, writing:

"when the universe gives you signs you pay attention ! what goes around always comes back around. when you have ugly in your heart the outcome will always backfire 🅿️🫵🏽just wanna say pay attention to the universe. it’s speaking to us 🏁"

The Sky refused to re-sign Carter despite her solid year because of her misfit under the new coaching staff led by Tyler Marsh. The Sky also needed more spacing, with Angel Reese and Kamilla Cardoso as the franchise's centerpieces. Carter, being a 29.0% 3-point shooter last year, didn't aid her case.

There's also fan speculation that there were locker room issues that forced Carter out of the Sky. However, no concrete reports suggest this situation is true.

Angel Reese-led Sky's offense leaves a lot to be desired without Chennedy Carter and now Courtney Vandersloot

The Sky moved on from Chennedy Carter, hoping it would elevate their offense. They took a step in the right direction by acquiring Courtney Vandersloot and Ariel Atkins in the offseason. However, in the seven games they have played thus far, the Sky are 2-5, with the third-worst offense rated 94.9.

With Vandersloot's season-ending injury, they don't have an experienced starting point guard. Rookie Hailey Van Lith and Ariel Atkins will have to share the responsibilities on the perimeter. Meanwhile, Angel Reese's usage could also see an uptick as a point forward, which has been coach Tyler Marsh's vision all along.

Whether it works out or not remains to be seen. Atkins, Vandersloot and Kamilla Cardoso are the only players averaging 10+ points for the Sky this year, while Reese is struggling at 9.1 ppg on 30.9% shooting.

Carter's on-court fit was an issue, but at least she was able to create for herself, which made a significant difference for Chicago last year. It'll be interesting to see if the Sky take a U-turn on the decision not to bring her back amid the need to acquire guard depth.
