Born in Kent, Washington, Courtney Vandersloot has been one of the best point guards in the WNBA's history. She has over 2,800 assists and is ranked second among all-time assists leaders. In her 14-year career, she has played over 400 matches and 10,000+ minutes and averages 10.1 points, 3.2 rebounds, 6.7 assists, and 1.2 steals per game, shooting 44.7% from the field (via Basketball Reference). She has played 12 seasons for the Chicago Sky and won one WNBA championship in 2021. After the 2022 season, Courtney Vandersloot joined the New York Liberty as a free agent in February 2023. The Liberty lost the 2023 finals to the Las Vegas Aces but won the WNBA Championship in 2024, defeating the Minnesota Lynx. Vandersloot, playing as a backup point guard, contributed 5.3 points and 2.5 assists per game during the playoffs. She dedicated the 2024 season to her mother, Jan Vandersloot, who passed away mid-summer, making her contributions all the more meaningful.

Vandersloot has also had a prestigious overseas career while playing in countries like Turkey, Poland, and Russia. She is a three-time EuroLeague Champion with UMMC Ekaterinburg (2019 and 2021) and Fenerbahce (2023). The guard has also won multiple Turkish league titles (2017 and 2023) and was also named the 2017 Turkish League MVP.

Courtney Vandersloot played college basketball for Gonzaga University and is considered the best player to put the Gonzaga jersey on. She is their all-time leader in assists, steals and minutes played. She is also one of two players in the program's history to score over 2000+ points. She was also the only player in WCC history to win three WCC Player of the Year awards.

She holds the top-three spot on most assists in a single season in Gonzaga’s history and is the only player to have a season with 300+ assists. She is the only player to score 700+ points in a single season in Gonzaga's history (712 points in her senior year). She holds the record for most steals in a single season and is one of two players to have recorded 100+ steals multiple times in a single season. She also has multiple single-game records in assists, steals, and free throws. She holds the top-11 spots in assists made in a single game which justifies her nickname “Floor General”. She also had 11 steals in a single game which is the program's record for most steals in a game. (via Sports Reference)

In her freshman season, Vandersloot won the WCC Rookie of the Year award. In her sophomore year, she won the WCC Player of the Year (regular season) and won the WCC Tournament MVP. In her junior year, Vandersloot averaged 14.1 points, 3.8 rebounds, 9.4 assists, and 3.6 steals per game, shooting 47.2% from the field. She repeated the double-double by winning both the WCC Player of the Year and the WCC Tournament MVP.

In her senior year, Vandersloot won the WCC Player of the Year and the WCC Tournament MVP for the third consecutive time. Courtney Vanderslootended her career with the second-highest assists made in Women's college basketball history and was only one of three women to have 1000+ assists (others being Caitlin Clark and Sabrina Ionescu). Eventually, Vandersloot's #21 was retired by Gonzaga University.
