Tom Wilson is a right winger and also serves as an alternate captain for the Washington Capitals in the National Hockey League (NHL), as of May 2025. Wilson was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada and started playing hockey at age two on a backyard rink built by his father, according to reports. He played minor hockey for the Toronto Jr. Canadiens and scored 105 points in his final minor season before joining the Ontario Hockey League (OHL).

Wilson was selected 27th overall by the Plymouth Whalers in the 2010 OHL Priority Selection and played junior hockey for the Whalers until 2013. Despite sustaining a number of injuries, he earned attention for his size, toughness, and playoff performance in 2012. He was selected 16th overall by the Washington Capitals in the 2012 NHL draft and he signed with the Capitals shortly after. He continued to play with the Whalers before joining the Capitals full-time after the 2013 NHL lockout.

Tom Wilson has played his entire NHL career with the Washington Capitals, as of May 2025. He made his NHL debut on May 10, 2013 and joined the Capitals full-time in 2013-14, recording 10 points and 151 penalty minutes in his rookie season. He scored 15 points and helped his side win the Stanley Cup in 2018. He scored a career-high 22 goals in 2018-19 and posted 44 points in 2019-20. On August 4, 2023, he signed a seven-year, $45.5 million extension with the Capitals. On March 18, 2025, he scored his 30th goal of the season, becoming the third player in NHL history to reach 30 goals after playing 800 regular-season games.
