Tom Wilson during Washington Capitals v Montreal Canadiens - Game Three

Thomas Wilson is a Canadian right winger and an alternate captain for the Washington Capitals, as of the 2024-25 NHL season. Wilson started his junior career with the Plymouth Whalers in 2010. He was selected by the Whalers in the second round (27th overall) in the 2010 OHL Priority Selection. Thomas Wilson first represented Canada on the international stage at the 2011 World U-17 Hockey Challenge, where he helped his team win a gold medal.

Thomas Wilson was drafted by the Washington Capitals as the 16th overall pick in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft. The Capitals signed him to a three-year entry-level contract, but announced that Wilson will continue playing for the Whalers for the rest of the season (via FOX Sports). After finishing the 2012-13 OHL season with the Whalers, Wilson joined the Capitals' affiliate team, the Hershey Bears, in the AHL. Wilson made the Capitals' roster in 2013. Despite not being able to score in the first 10 games of the season, he was retained in the team to fill the enforcer role. He faced multiple suspensions throughout his career, including a 20-game suspension in 2018. In 2021, he faced further criticism after causing injuries to Brandon Carlo. In an interview after the game, Carlo's coach, Bruce Cassidy, called it a "Predatory hit from a player who's done that before" (via Bleacher Report).
