Leon Draisaitl is a German center and an alternate captain for the Edmonton Oilersin the National Hockey League (NHL). He started his career in Germany and moved to the Prince Albert Raiders, a team in the Western Hockey League (WHL) in 2012. He was selected third overall by the Oilers drafted in the 2014 NHL entry draft.

In 2020, Draisaitl relished his highlight moment in the NHL as he became the first German to win the Art Ross Trophy as the leading point scorer in the NHL. Apart from the Art Ross Trophy, he won the Hart Memorial Trophy for being the most valuable player of the regular season in 2020. Draisaitl also earned the Ted Lindsay Award for being the most outstanding player of the league in 2020.

Leon Draisaitl has scored eight career hat tricks, according to StatMuse. He scored his first hat trick in the 2018-19 season and scored his second in the 2019-20 season. Draisaitl hit two hat tricks each in the following three seasons (2020-2021, 2021-2022, and 2022-2023).

Leon Draisaitl Early Days

Leon Draisaitl was born in Cologne, Germany on October 27, 1995. He was born to parents Peter Draisaitl, who played ice hockey with the Kölner Haie in the Deutsche Eishockey Liga and also represented Germany in three Winter Olympics, and Sandra Draisaitl. He allegedly played various sports in his childhood and competed for the Kölner Haie U-16 team and the Adler Mannheim U-18 team as an amateur. In the 2011-2012 season, the Edmonton Oilers player showcased his talent in the German Development League, registering 56 points for the Jungadler Mannheim U-18 team in just 35 games. He was honoured with the Player of the Year award in the league, as per reports.

Leon Draisaitl NHL Career

Leon Draisaitl made his NHL debut with the Edmonton Oilers against the Calgary Flames on October 9, 2014. The Oilers center scored his maiden NHL goal against the Carolina Hurricanes on October 24, 2014. He finished the 2016-17 season with 29 goals and 48 assists. In the 2018-2019 season, he bagged 50 goals and collected 105 points. The following season, Draisaitl secured the Art Ross Trophy, the Hart Memorial Trophy, and the Ted Lindsay Award. In the 2021-2022 season, Draisaitl struggled in the Stanley Cup playoffs but finished the season with 50 goals for the second time in his career. He recorded a career-high 128 points in the 2022-23 season, as per StatMuse.
