Tiafoe plays an aggressive offensive game that depends on a strong forehand and big serve, much like many of his top-ranked American contemporaries, Sam Querrey and Jack Sock. He can hit first serve between 120 and 140 mph regularly. When John Isner faced Tiafoe at the 2016 US Open, he claimed that Tiafoe could return his serve and said that his game is one of the best in the world. He suggested that if Tiafoe improved his second serve, he would be a more dangerous player. The shot that stands out the most for Tiafoe is his forehand, which has a peculiar arm motion and a heavy topspin. When Tiafoe won his first ATP title at the 2018 Delray Beach Open, he attributed his success to his improved serve.
