Alex de Minaur is an Australian tennis player who achieved a career-high singles ranking of No. 6 in July 2024. He was born in Australia on February 17, 1999. He made the biggest upset at the start of the season by defeating World No. 1 Novak Djokovic in the quarterfinals of the 2024 United Cup.

Alex De Minaur has won nine ATP titles to date. He won his first ATP title in his home city, Sydney, where he defeated Andreas Seppi of Italy in the final. He then secured his second title in Atlanta by defeating Taylor Fritz and his third in Zhuhai, beating Adrian Mannarino in the final. He advanced to the quarterfinal of the 2024 Monte Carlo Masters and the 2024 Paris Masters, losing to Novak Djokovic and Holger Rune. One of De Minaur's major accomplishments this season was being the first Australian to qualify for the 2024 Nitto ATP Finals in singles since Lleyton Hewitt in 2004.

Alex De Minaur's most significant achievement so far was his victory at the ATP 500 level in Acapulco in March 2023. He defeated Tommy Paul in the final. He has reached six other ATP singles finals, including one in Los Cabos in 2023, where Stefanos Tsitsipas defeated him. It turns out that his nickname was thought up by one of his former coaches, Ben Pine, a long time ago. Pine made the nickname a playful way to refer to De Minaur's last name, which is tricky to say. It also relates to his speed and agility on the court.

Alex De Minaur explained, "The one responsible for it is one of my past coaches, Ben Pine, from a while ago. It kind of had to do with my speed in a way. It played around with the words of my last name. My last name is long and can be hard to say correctly. So it made sense, and I've stuck with it ever since."
