NBC Sports' NFL insider Mike Florio has refuted Adam Schefter's report that defensive tackle Christian Wilkins was released by the Las Vegas Raiders earlier in the week due to a locker-room incident."That is definitely NOT the story that has been making the rounds," Florio wrote via the 'Pro Football Talk' account.Florio did not provide any further details on what may have contributed to Wilkins' release. On the "Pat McAfee Show" on Monday, Schefter described what he had heard about the developments in the Raiders locker room."From speaking to people inside the Raiders locker room... They say that Christian Wilkins playfully went to kiss a teammate on the top of his head... They say that player took offense to it and that's what everybody has been dancing around," Schefter said.Although it does happen at times, it is not common for NFL insiders to hear conflicting reports on a topic.Christian Wilkins released after underwhelming 2024 seasonChristian Wilkins had a disappointing 2024 season for the Raiders and only appeared in five regular-season games. He amassed only 17 total tackles, 11 solo tackles, and two sacks. It was a sharp drop off from his production in five seasons in Miami, where he averaged 71 total tackles, 40.8 solo tackles, and 4.1 sacks per season. The Raiders said releasing Wilkens was in the "best interests" of the franchise."This franchise has a Commitment to Excellence on and off the field," Las Vegas said in a statement. "With no clear path or plan for future return to play from Christian, this transaction is necessary for the entire organization to move forward and prepare for the new season."
