Ryan Garcia is the former WBC interim lightweight champion, having held the title in 2021. From his childhood, Ryan Garcia has been engrossed in combat sports and was already boxing at the age of 7. The dream to make it big in combat sports led Garcia to win 15 national championships as an amateur, with a record of 215 wins and 15 losses in the amateur circuit. Garcia eventually took up professional boxing when he set foot inside the squared circle as a professional for the first time on June 9, 2016, at Rancho Grande Bar, Tijuana, Baja, California, in Mexico, against Edgar Meza in a four-round boxing bout. Garcia stopped Meza in the first round at 2:55 by a TKO, making a statement as a new entrant in the professional boxing circuit.

Ryan Garcia maintained his momentum of dominance in his next 22 fights and remained undefeated for years before suffering his first professional loss. On April 22, 2023, He locked horns with Gervonta Davis at T-Mobile Arena in Paradise, Nevada. The bout was set for 12 rounds. However, Davis was able to knock Garcia out in the seventh round and hand him the first loss of his career.
