Driving standards had recently become a major talking point in the IndyCar scene ahead of the Iowa double-header, and Marco Andretti was quick to highlight the issue amid several incidents that marked the short oval race. The Corn Country event, which was the open-wheel racing series’ first double-header of the season, featured some borderline racing tactics and aggressive driving.

In particular, the second round of the Newton double-header included several hard-fought, wheel-banging moments — notably one involving Santino Ferrucci and Christian Rasmussen, among others. In that incident, the AJ Foyt Racing driver, in an attempt to defend his position during the 275-lap race, opted for a more aggressive approach, went higher, and made contact with his ECR rival.

In an X post while the race was live, Marco Andretti seemingly referred to that incident and warned that such aggressive racecraft could have consequences.

“Frustrating to watch guys opening their hands with someone sitting outside of them. That will bite eventually,” Andretti wrote on X.

Doubling down on his opinion, the Andretti Global driver added:

“Same with guys turning in with guys clearly underneath them. The driving standards of the same few guys week in and week out need to be dealt with. Especially on ovals.”

It’s worth noting that the lead-up to the Iowa Speedway race was already marred by a few driver spats, with Juncos Hollinger Racing’s Conor Daly and Santino Ferrucci also involved in a subtle media exchange following an on-track incident during the previous Mid-Ohio Grand Prix. Whether the borderline driving that defined the Iowa race weekend comes back to haunt those involved remains to be seen.

Marco Andretti teases about 2026 championship after Alex Palou’s win in Iowa

Amid the call for broader ethical racing among drivers on the grid, Marco Andretti also had time to tease about the 2026 IndyCar Championship. The Pennsylvania native took to his social media to air his thoughts following Alex Palou’s victory in Iowa.

The double-header, which saw Palou finish in fifth place and first in the respective races, saw the Chip Ganassi Racing driver extend his lead at the top of the championship standings. The Barcelona native appears almost certain to clinch what would be his fourth series championship, especially considering there are only five races left on the 2025 calendar.

However, amid Palou’s dominance, Marco Andretti—who appears to have subtly made peace with the Barcelona native clinching the crown—took to his X account to post a teasing question:

“Did @AlexPalou lock up next year’s championship yet with all these wins?”

So far, Alex Palou is on course to achieve the best season by an IndyCar driver since A.J. Foyt in 1964. The former Dale Coyne Racing rookie has recorded seven race victories and four top-five finishes from the 12 races held so far this season.

With his fourth title almost certain, Palou could be well on course for another dominant march through the 2026 campaign.
