What is the course record for the Travelers Championship?

Last Modified Jun 20, 2024 08:17 GMT

The exclusive golf course TPC River Highlands lies in a suburb south of Hartford in Cromwell, Connecticut. It is a component of the PGA Tour's Tournament Players Club network. The annual Travellers Championship, formerly the Buick Championship and Greater Hartford Open, has taken place there every year since 1984.

After being established as Middletown Golf Club in 1928, the club changed its name to Edgewood Country Club in 1934. The PGA Tour purchased it in the early 1980s. Pete Dye, a golf course architect, renovated the course to TPC specifications, and it reopened as the "TPC of Connecticut" in 1984. In 1989, Bobby Weed redesigned the course and called it the TPC at River Highlands, consulting with tour pros Howard Twitty and Roger Maltbie.

Which course is the Travelers Championship played on?

The Travelers Championship is held annually on the TPC River Highland course in Cromwell, Connecticut. The championship layout of TPC River Highlands is typified by innovative architecture and a deep respect for nature, two qualities that distinguish genuinely outstanding golf courses. TPC River Highlands' par-70, 6,841-yard course was entirely renovated by the renowned Pete Dye in 1982 and again in 1989 by PGA TOUR Design Services, Inc. Famous golf course architect Bobby Weed, with PGA TOUR players Howard Twitty and Roger Matlbie, served as consultants.

The course was initially known as Middletown Golf Club in 1928 and then as Edgewood Country Club. The 148-acre course winds through grand corridors of mature oak, sycamore, maple, and eastern white pine trees that frame the gently rolling fairways. The bluegrass fescue roughs encircling the bentgrass tees stretch all the way to the greens.

A thrilling and unforgettable golf experience is produced by the layout's well-balanced combination of long and short holes, complemented by several lakes and ponds. Hole numbers 15 through 17 are the most noteworthy since they revolve around a four-acre lake. PGA TOUR Professional Stewart Cink calls the four-hole collection, including the home hole, "four of the most exciting finishing holes in a group anywhere in the world."
